Report a concern or violation of restrictions.
STEP #1. When someone does something that negatively impacts property values, and the quality of life of his neighbors, it contributes to the decline of the neighborhood. Neighborly efforts to make him aware of the problem, and offers to help correct it, should always be the first step. Discussing the issue with other adjacent neighbors being impacted will usually identify one or more neighbors willing to initiate this first step. When approached in a friendly manner, most neighbors will agree to fix the problem in a timely manner.
STEP #2. When neighborly efforts don’t work, contact the Shelby Township Code Enforcement Office, 586-726-7248. They have the staff, experience, and authority to enforce the many township ordinances that were specifically written to keep Shelby neighborhoods from falling into decline. Enlisting the other impacted neighbors to call also will help expedite the response from the township.
STEP #3. When there is no applicable ordinance, check to see if there is an applicable BLHA Restriction, (View Restrictions). Complete and submit the following information to alert the BLHA Board to the problem. Board members are your volunteer neighbors who want the Association to prosper. They do not have regular opportunity for face-to-face contact, like neighbors in step #1, nor do they have the resources like the township in step #2. However, they will investigate the issue as quickly as possible and inform you of the outcome.
